Murray Stewart MacQueen

Murray Stewart MacQueen was born November 24, 1925 to parents Catherine Stewart and John MacQueen. He spent his early years in the Skye Road area where he attended the local elementary school, then later Maxville High School.

While working in Ottawa Murray became associated with sports associations namely the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Ottawa 67’s. He was involved as a sports communicator with Angus H. MacDonell for Glengarry Sports events, soccer banquets and the Lions Club.

He became president of the Glengarry Highland Games in 1986 and 1987 after which time he became Chairman taking over from his old friend, Angus Hoey MacDonell. He remained Chairman for five years.

In 1978 Murray was a founding member of the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame located in Maxville. He was chairperson from 1995 to 1998.

Murray married Thelma James from the Vankleek Hill area and have been married for over 50 years.
