Robert MacInnes

Robert Carman MacInnes (1932 – ) Inducted in 2005 Robert Carman MacInnes was born in Lochiel Township on September 23rd, 1932 to Hazel MacCrimmon and Peter MacInnes. Three years later the family was settled in Kirkland Lake and Peter became a member of the Kirkland Lake Curling Club.

Robert began curling in 1945 at age 14 and continued there for three years before joining the RCAF. In 1956 Robert and friends started a Curling Club at RCAF Station in Centralia, in southwestern Ontario and at this time he started to curl competitively at the provincial level. Later in Zweibruckenn, Germany Robert was the icemaker at the Curling Club there and served on the executive.

In 1958 and again in 1960 Robert was given the opportunity to curl in Edinburgh, Scotland where in 1958 he received the honor of being made an initiated member of the Royal Caladonia Curling Club.

In the 1962 Ontario Curling Finals they won 6 games losing only one. In 1963 the team repeated as provincial reps in Hamilton but lost that final to Bob Mann from Hanover. In 1966, with Bill Lewis, the team won the Grand Aggregate at the City of Ottawa Bonspiel in a close-end play-off against Jake Edwards of Kingston. In 1967, again with Bill Lewis, they won the Ontario Silver Tankard which gave them the provincial double rink championship and an entry into the Lambton Masters and TV appearances on Arnie Butterworth’s Roaring Game show only to lose in the finals. In 1969 they repeated as Tankard winners.

His family has always given him great support and understanding love in all his sporting competitions.
